General Questions

What is Loom Academy?

Loom Academy provides personalised, one-on-one AI and coding tutoring designed for the modern world. Founded by AI engineers with 10+ years of industry experience, we bridge the gap between traditional education and the practical skills needed in today's AI-powered careers.

Who are the instructors at Loom Academy?

Our courses are designed and taught by the founders of Loom Labs, an AI consulting company. We're AI engineers and data scientists with over 10 years of hands-on industry experience, working with businesses to solve real problems with AI every day.

What makes Loom Academy different from other coding schools?

We offer completely personalised, one-on-one tutoring focused on practical AI skills you can use immediately. Our instructors work in Machine Learning and AI, so we teach what's actually needed in the industry, not just academic theory.

Course Structure & Format

Are the courses taught live or pre-recorded?

All our courses are taught live, one-on-one with dedicated instructors. Each session is individualised to your questions, pace, and specific goals.

Do I need any coding experience to start?

It depends on the course. Our Coding Essentials course requires no background—we'll teach you Python from scratch. For Beginner AI, you'll need basic coding experience, which you can get from our Coding Essentials course.

What programming language do you teach?

We primarily teach Python, as it's the most widely used language for AI and machine learning applications.

How long are the courses?

Course length varies depending on your pace and goals, but we typically say 10 lessons (an hour each) for each course. Since we offer one-on-one tutoring, we can adjust the timeline to fit your schedule and learning speed.

What happens between lessons? Do you assign homework?

After each lesson, we'll provide practical exercises and mini-projects to reinforce what you've learned. These aren't traditional ‘homework assignments’—they're hands-on practice designed to build your confidence with the concepts. If you get stuck or have questions while working on these exercises, we'll address them together in your next session. The goal is to keep you progressing at a comfortable pace, not to overwhelm you with work outside of class.

Course Content

What will I actually build in these courses?

You'll build real applications like AI-powered chatbots, smart weather assistants, email management tools, and receipt analyzers. Every course includes hands-on projects that solve actual problems.

Do you teach ChatGPT and other AI tools?

Yes! We cover how to work with various AI models including GPT-4, Claude, and Gemini, plus open-source alternatives like Llama and Mistral. You'll learn prompt engineering, API integration, and when to use different models.

What is RAG and do you teach it?

RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) combines AI with custom knowledge bases to provide accurate, sourced responses. We teach RAG systems in our Intermediate AI course, including hands-on implementation with LangChain.

Technical & Practical

What software do I need for the courses?

You'll need a computer with Python installed (we can also use Google Colab and skip this step), Visual Studio Code (free), and internet access. We'll guide you through the complete setup process in your first lesson.

Do you provide API keys for AI services?

We'll guide you through obtaining your own API keys from providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. This ensures you own your access and can continue building after the course.

Can I get help between sessions?

Our one-on-one format means your instructor is focused entirely on your progress. We can discuss the best way to provide ongoing support based on your specific needs.

Who It's For

Are these courses suitable for high school students?

Absolutely! We work with students of all ages who are eager to learn practical AI and coding skills that will benefit them in school and future careers.

I'm a working professional—will these courses help my career?

Yes! Our courses are designed to give working professionals practical AI skills they can immediately apply in their jobs. We focus on real-world applications, not just theory.

What if I'm completely new to AI?

Perfect! Our Beginner AI course is designed for people new to AI. We'll start with fundamentals and build up to practical applications, ensuring you understand both how AI works and how to use it effectively.
